Twin Towns 2023 Annual meeting
Oostkamp, Belgium 29th April 2023
Paul Bohan – Buxton representative
Arrival – 28th April 2023
There was an informal meeting and social get together in the evening. Twinning matters including exhibitions, virtual twinning and work experience was discussed.
Main meeting 10am – 12 noon 29th April
The meeting was held in Oostkamp new council offices. Each town delivered a multi-language presentation about general activities in their towns of which some related to twinning.
Buxton presentation and talk is attached.
1pm – 6.30pm: Art trail and visit to town theatre.
8pm: Twinning meal and social.
‘Fringe’ meetings:
Paul had a number of informal meetings with members of the Bad Nauheim, Oostkamp and Bad Langensalza parties. On 29th April no decision was possible about the timing of the photo exhibition in Buxton nor the work experience placements. It was only on the morning of the 30th April that a plan was formulated, see attached.
30th April – Departure
Learning and Recommendations
See also plan for 2023 (Pictures and Placements).
The twin towns seem to have streets or squares named after each other. Recommend Buxton investigate naming a square or street after Bad Nauheim.
In a prominent place in Buxton a sign could be erected stating ‘Bad Nauheim 650 Miles’.
Work with Bad Nauheim committee to set up a five-a-side football competition and apply to https://ukgermanconnection.org/pp/funding/flexible-funding/ (link sent to Hans Peter). Suggest this is for people age 18+ for ease and because they are more likely to remain involved in the twinning afterwards than 14/15 year olds.
